The UPC Preparatory Committee met in The Hague on 15 March 2017 for the last time before the next stage of the project would commence; the phase of provisional application.
The Preparatory Committee is now working under the assumption that the Provisional Application Phase (PAP) will start end of spring 2017, presumably in May, and that the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court (UPCA) can enter into force and the Court become operational in December 2017.
As previously reported, the UPC Preparatory Committee has largely completed all the work required in preparation for the Court to become fully operational.
The Italian authorities have formally selected the location for the local division to be set up in Milan. It will be hosted within the premises of the new Milan Courthouse, at the following address: Via San Barnaba n. 50, Milan.
The original timetable for recruitment of UPC judges was to complete interviews and make appointments early in 2017. The current timetable is being revisited in the light of the result of the referendum in the UK, which will to some extent delay the entry into operation of the UPC.
The 18th Preparatory Committee was held in Paris.
The 17th meeting of the Preparatory Committee was held in Stockholm, Sweden.
Today, 29 June 2016, a protocol on privileges and immunities to the UPC Agreement has been signed by representatives of member states in the margins of COREPER I meeting in Brussels.
