On 8 July 2022, the Administrative Committee of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) held its second meeting, which took place largely onsite in Luxembourg with the participation of all Contracting Member States and observers.
After the inaugural meetings of the Administrative, Budget and Advisory Committee held at the end of February, the work preparing the Unified Patent Court (UPC) is continuing.
A call for tenders for the provision of medical and social services is launched today, with a view to set up the Unified Patent Court’s Medical and Social security Plan. All the procedural requirements and the specifications of the tender are included in the attached document.
Last week, following the UPC Administrative Committee, the UPC Budget Committee was also convened in Luxembourg, in the form of a hybrid meeting.
Yesterday, 22 February 2022, a historical step in the setting up of the Unified Patent Court was taken when the Court’s Administrative Committee held its inaugural meeting in Luxembourg, at the seat of the Court of Appeal and the Registry.
Austria was the first Member State to ratify the UPC Agreement and yesterday the loop was closed when it deposited its instrument of ratification of the Protocol on Provisional Application of the UPC Agreement.
The 21st UPC Preparatory Committee was held in Luxembourg on 27 October 2021 in a hybrid format, with a solid onsite and remote participation. The choice of format provided delegations with the needed flexibility in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Friday, on 15 October 2021, the Slovenian government deposited its instrument of ratification for the Protocol on the Provisional Application of UPC Agreement (PAP-Protocol) and the UPC Agreement itself, bringing the Unified Patent Court one step closer to its launch.

After the Order dated 23 June 2021 of the German Federal Constitutional Court (FCC), the way is cleared for Germany to participate in the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court (UPCA) and the Protocol on the Provisional Application of the UPCA (the PAP-Protocol).
