The Unified Patent Court appoints its first Registrar and Deputy-Registrar
The Unified Patent Court is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Alexander Ramsay (SE) as Registrar and Mr Axel Jacobi (DE) as Deputy-Registrar.

Adjustment of the timeline – Start of the Sunrise Period on 1 March 2023
The start of the Sunrise Period is postponed for two months. The initial roadmap foresaw 1 January 2023 as the beginning of the Sunrise Period with an entry into force of the UPCA on 1 April 2023. The additional time is intended to allow future users to prepare themselves for the strong authentication which will be required to access the Case Management System (CMS) and to sign documents.
The Unified Patent Court (UPC) offers information on providers holding certificates that meet the requirements of the UPC
In order to address concerns from users in regards to suitable providers for the CMS authentication that comply with UPC requirements, the UPC IT team contacted by e-mail all the service providers available in the EU Trusted List. Based on the feedback as received from these service providers, the UPC IT team has compiled an initial list, sorted by country, with information about the providers’ compliance with said UPC requirements.

Today, the Unified Patent Court confirms the appointment of a total of 85 judges (34 legally qualified judges and 51 technically qualified judges) to take up their duties as of the entry into force of the UPC Agreement.
Latest state of play in view of the launch of the Unified Patent Court
The UPC Preparatory team is excited to share the implementation roadmap attached. This roadmap depicts all the key activities and milestones of the UPC in the coming months. The entry into force of the UPC Agreement is currently planned for 1 April 2023, with the Court opening its doors and starting to receive cases as from that date.
