The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre of the Unified Patent Court launches a public consultation on its draft Arbitration Rules The Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre has launched a public consultation to gather feedback on draft Arbitration Rules As part of its preparations for the commencement of operations, the Patent Mediation and Arbitration Centre of the Unified Patent Court (PMAC) is continuing its engagement with users by seeking their input on the development of its procedural framework.With operational readiness expected by early 2026, the PMAC is progressing steadily towards becoming a dedicated forum for the effective and specialised resolution of patent and related IP disputes. The Centre forms an integral part of the UPC’s wider mission to provide fair, efficient and innovation-supportive patent litigation across Europe.On 4 June 2025, the PMAC initiated the public consultation on the draft Arbitration Rules, inviting contributions from a wide range of stakeholders around the world. This marks another significant step in aligning the Centre’s procedures with the practical needs of the international IP community and reinforces its commitment to transparency and inclusivity in rule-making.The draft Arbitration Rules are designed to provide a clear, streamlined and flexible framework tailored to the specificities of IP-related arbitration. Key features include support for fully digital proceedings, flexibility to accommodate diverse case profiles and provisions addressing complex issues such as disputes involving Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) and FRAND licensing terms. The rules seek to promote dispute resolution that is confidential, impartial and accessible to all.The consultation period will remain open until 4 August 2025.
