The Unified Patent Court (UPC) announces that the implementation of its new Case Management System (CMS) will take place in two phases, in an effort to ensure a smooth and stable rollout while minimizing all risks. 

The first phase will begin in July 2025, focusing on opt-out functionalities and representatives’ registration. This initial release will allow users to get familiarized with the new system. 

The second phase will follow in September 2025, at which point the full CMS will become operational for all users. 

Until the second phase is rolled out, the current CMS will continue to be used for the filing of cases, applications and protective letters. 

The UPC has already issued a call for participation in the opt-out APIs, encouraging early engagement from interested users to prepare for the transition. 

Alexander Ramsay, Registrar of the UPC highlights the rationale behind the two-phase approach: “A phased rollout is the most effective way to ensure stability and minimize risks during the transition to the new CMS.” 

In the coming weeks, the UPC will launch a dedicated webpage where users will find all relevant materials, including FAQs and user guides, to support the transition and provide practical guidance.
